First Aid/CPR Training – Odell Weeks

  • The Aiken Pickledillys would like to know if any of our members have had or are interested in CPR Training.
  • Jim and Nancy asked that the reps to reach out to their members and ask if any have had CPR Training.  With member approval, their names would be placed on a list as Certified Trained in CPR provided to Odell Weeks and they would be permitted administer CPR if necessary.
  • Nancy Vermilye is exploring the possibility that her son, Dennis Vermilye an EMT, check on giving a class to our members on CPR Training and also waiving the fee.  We will know more at our next meeting.
  • It was also noted that there is a defibrillator available on site should an occasion arise that we need the use of one.

In House Tournament/Charity Event

  • There is no gym available for a Saturday until February or March to schedule the In House Tournament.  The tournament will begin in the morning and ending midday followed by lunch.
  • No format for the tournament has been decided upon nor has the charity for proceeds to be donated.  Both will be determined and announced at a later date.

Lessons – Current Status

  • The City is requiring that all instructors become certified.  USAPA is referring potential instructors to the IPTPA (Int'lP'ball Teaching Professional Association).  IPTPA has a Four Phase Training Program for anyone who wishes to become certified.  Laura Fenton will be in Aiken in November and will be able to certify new instructors who have completed Phases 1 through 3.
  • During the month of October, Mo and his new assistant will be conducting clinics the 2nd and 4th Wednesdays.  The clinics will be offered to Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced levels with no more than 8 per clinic.   These lessons will be in Gym 2 and should be arranged using Court Reservation Sign-ups.

Players need to be aware that there will be less court time offered during the month of November due to winter programs slated by Odell Weeks.

League – Current Status

  • The Fall League games are set to begin on Friday, October 6, 2017 with the last game ending on December 1, 2017.  Most games will be played indoors in Gym 2 with the exception of a few to be played outdoors on the Virginia Acres courts.
  • To date, no Woodside or Reserve teams were formed for the fall league.
  • Aiken Pickledillys leaders would like to see more interest taken in the Eustis Park courts.  There are four very nice courts available for outdoor play.  Many thanks to Kathy and John Reiter for taking time to promote the Eustis Park courts.  Also available for play are outdoor courts in Kalmia Hills.

Minutes

  • It needs to be noted that Tony Quick will perform the ratings for players 4.0 and above.

Directors – Tournament

  • There are a few candidates that will be interviewed for the position of Director for our 2018 tournament.  We will be notified of any decision in the future.

Social

  • The next social is scheduled for Friday, December 8 from 6-9PM in Rooms 1-2.
  • Faith Loeb suggested that we consider wearing name tags to familiarize ourselves with our players.

Player Reps

  • Joyce Noland requested that player reps keep an updated list of active players.  Nelson Spitnale can then update the respective player lists on our website.
  • Player reps may be given authority to give “temporary ratings of 2.0/2.5” to non-rated new players for a period of three months.  After the three months, the temporary rated players must contact Ron Nelson and arrange to be officially rated.  Reps may also give a higher temporary rating if they feel it coincides with their playing skills but these players will also need to be officially rated.
  • Changes to the Guidelines on our website will include that:  1. Player ratings were designed for play during Court Designation   2.  Non-rated players may play in Mixed Play and Court Reservation.

Additional Remarks

  • Approved by Odell Weeks is a bulletin board to be hung in Gym 2 which will post important guidelines for our players.  Included on the board will be player rep photos, weekend designation schedule along with announcements.  The only persons who will post items to the board are Jim Kabel and Nancy Vermilye.  It is not for use by our players.
