Minutes from 5/2/2017 player reps meeting

The May meeting was held on May 2, 2017, at Security Federal Bank.  In attendance were Tony Quick, Warren Marinaccio,  Paul Leibstein, Josh Booth, Doug Lilly, Faith Loeb, Sally Fuller, Marian Garcia, Nancy Racki, John Cox, Ron Nelson, and Joyce Noland.

Rating procedure update (revised 05/19/2017)

The following modifications are being made to the rating process:  All players who use the court designation system at Odell Weeks must get a rating from Ron's committee.  Ratings from other sources are not valid.  Even if the rating source was reliable, other ratings do not contain the low, medium, and high designations for each level that are essential for our court designation system.

When new players arrive, those with no previous experience will start play on Court 1.  New players with previous experience will start play on courts 4 and 5.  The players reps on the aforementioned courts will give these players a temporary rating. The temporary rating will be valid for court designation play, but only for a limited period of time.  After the specified period of time, these players will receive an e-mail from Ron stating that they must obtain a rating in order to continue attending court designation play at Odell Weeks.  If a player does not comply, a second e-mail will be sent stating that Odell Weeks backs the system and that the person must get a rating.

Two categories of players will be rated by the committee using a shortened version of the rating process. Those categories are (1) players with a league rating, and (2) players who have received a previous Odell Weeks Court Designation rating by the Rating Committee, tournament play, or the grandfathered-in system from 2015, and who wish to be re-rated.  These players will play games with others at their level, and the committee will evaluate whether the new requested level is accurate. Drills will not be a part of the process.

Players without a rating and players with a temporary rating will be given the full-format rating that includes both drills and games.

Ron's committee will only rate people who play regularly at Odell Weeks.  Other pickleball programs who wish to start a rating system may contact Ron and he will help them with the process.  Ratings given by these programs will not, however, be accepted for Odell Weeks court designation play.

The list of players eligible for court designation play at Odell Weeks can be found here.

New leadership team

The leadership team for the September 2017 - August 2018 season will consist of Tony Quick, Jim Kabel, and Nancy Vermilye.

Socials

It was decided that the next social will be on a Friday night in June, depending on facility availability.  Exhibition matches will be played by 3.5 men, 3.5 women, and 4.0+ players.

Player biographies

Four player profiles have been added to the website since the e-mail blast.  One more e-mail blast will be sent requesting that players submit their profiles.

Morning play

John Cox and Nancy Racki stated that morning play is going smoothly.

Nets

Nancy Racki suggested that signs be posted on nets that are scheduled to be used later in the day so that players will know that they may be left up.  Tony is going to get the signs made.  It was suggested that people may also check which courts are reserved later in the day by looking at Sign-up Genius on their smart phones.

Next meeting

The next meeting will be held on Tuesday, July 18th, at Security Federal Bank.
