Joyce called the meeting to order.

Super Senior Round Robin – Jan 18, 2020

  • Joyce said we have had a huge response in 2 days. The 3.5 women is full and we have a waiting list.
  • This RR is sign up without a partner and 2.5 level participants are encouraged to sign up. Faith and Grace will gather information and Faith will send the information to the new 2.5s to participate.
  • We need volunteers!!

Volunteers for Christmas at Hopelands Gardens

  • We have volunteers for the early time but still need some volunteers for the later times 7:30 – 9:30. Please go to the website to sign up.
  • Joyce asked the group if we were signing up for too many things? And Nelson S added that it was probably just the time of the year, it gets busy.
  • We got several people in the leadership team to sign up for the late times.
  • There is special parking available for the volunteers. Please reps encourage your groups to sign up.

New Year's Eve Event

  •  We will have pickleball all day 9am – 8:45pm but no social on that day.

Raffle winners

  • Night at the Inn winners – Pat Smith and Jean Durkee
  • Round of golf winner – Nancy Rodgers

Treasurer's Report

  • We've sold some of the extra medals we bought to Gregg Park for their RR.
  • Some additional donations have come in.

First Presbyterian

  • We have cancelled Saturday play at First Pres due to lack of participation in December. And we have no nights available. But Gregg park is available all Saturdays in December.
  • We have no Gregg park or OW in Jan for Saturdays due to Basketball so we are looking into scheduling for us at least January and the first part of February.

First Baptist

  • We have night play on Monday and Thursday nights 6-9pm. Open Play, 2 courts.
  • Use it or lose it! Please sign up and take advantage of this opportunity.

Smith-Hazel

  • This is a city facility so the price is the same as OW $2 city, $3 out of city limits.
  • It is a beautiful facility and has 3 courts available for open play, Wednesdays and Thursday from 1-3pm in December. It is indoor play.
  •  George said that the website at Places to Play shows a photo of the entrance door. It is the one that says “Recreation Facilities” and added that there is lots of parking.
  • Grace mentioned that sometimes people are hesitant to go to a new place to play but George encouraged everyone to give it a try. All the information is on the website. And please spread the word as we have limited indoor play during basketball season.
  • Only drop in, no reservation.

Input from player reps and other discussion

  • Grace and Faith discussed new 2.5 players beginner clinics and practice.  They clarified the terms for us: Intro is for new players that have never played before and Beginners clinic is for Novices. The people that complete the Intro then go to Faith for practices.
  • George Wisz helps with the beginner practices as a volunteer.
  • We have added an additional clinic a month to try to catch people who work and can't make the regular scheduled clinic so we are trying to accommodate as many people as we can.
  • Jim Kabel went to the Nationals at Indian Wells. He said that our tournament was better run. Chris Powers won Gold  for 4.5.
  • Marian asked how to get on the emails? Joyce explained that there are two lists. One is the one you sign in by pressing the green ball on the website and the second one is the active player list, which includes the people that regularly play at OW, and people who get rated. But Joyce also said that about 98% of the information to the active player distribution is on the website. If someone would like to be added to this second list, their rep needs to send an email to Nelson Spitnale and the leadership team needs to be copied on the email.
  • Court Etiquette note – People please do not enter someone else's court while in play. It is a safety issue. Please call “pickle” before entering other courts to retrieve a ball and wait for a stop in play before crossing behind to get to your court.
  • George said a player didn't know how to sign up for drop-in play on the website. He encouraged the reps to help players sign in for the first time.
  • Nelson asked if the Super Senior RR was opened to other areas like McCormick. Joyce said that the email blast did include everyone.
  • Marian asked if we thought it was a good idea to set up for the Super Senior RR the night before. Joyce agreed it was an excellent idea and she would check into it.
  • Gregg Park will go down to 4 courts during basketball season.

Next Meeting will be Monday, Jan 6th, 2020 at Odell Weeks 3:00 pm Room 4.
