Updates from Gregg Park and Odell Weeks

  • At GP on July 14th, a modified version of open play will be introduced. Each of the two courts designated for open play will have 6 slots to sign up. Two other courts will be for reserved play. But you MUST SIGN UP in order to play. If you have not signed up, you will NOT BE ALLOWED TO PLAY!

  • GP – Week of July 6th, we only have Sat due to Kids Camp. Week of July 13th, we have Tues, Thurs and Sat. The last two weeks in July we only have Sat due to Kids Camp.

  • At GP the process is easy. First they will make sure you are signed to play and then they will take your temperature. People who already played felt that the environment was reasonably safe.

  • Joyce stressed that this new open play is NOT a drop-in play. If you don’t sign up, you can’t play. The facilities will not allow you to play unless you’ve signed up.

  • At Odell, players will be allowed to make three court reservations after 8am on Thursday, and one additional reservation on Friday.  Saturday, players may make an unlimited number of reservations for the remainder of the week with no restrictions.

  • Reminder to all, the policy we are following for COVID-19 is basically the state policy: If you have been exposed or if someone in your household has tested positive for COVID-19, you must quarantine yourself until 14 days after that family member has tested negative. And please be mindful even in outdoor courts. We have to self-police ourselves and err on the side of caution. If at any point you feel uncomfortable with the number of people, please leave the court. We understand these are different times.

  • Practice good judgement. Be mindful of others. Be safe.

  • We are following CDC and facility policy on COVID, but if you have any questions regarding policy, please direct the questions to OW or GP directors.

  Tournament cancelled.

  •  Mo said that after reviewing the results of the survey, it was decided by the tournament directors, that under current conditions and with no additional help from the city, we cannot risk having the tournament. So it was decided that it is an indoor tournament, it wasn’t safe for the players or the volunteers. Since the decision was reached, many other tournaments have also been cancelled.

  • Postponing was considered but decided against. Instead for our local players we will try to do a RR at a later time to compensate for not having the tournament for our local players.

Social at Houndslake Saturday

There will be a Pickleball social at Houndslake courts this Saturday.  See the Aiken Pickleball website for additional information.

RR at Krock Center in Augusta

July 25th -  Round Robin 3.0 women and 3.5/4.0 mixed. All info is at the Aiken Pickleball    website if interested.

Input from player reps

  • Marissa talked about paints for temporarily converting the tennis courts to pickleball courts. Research, ongoing, shows that the paint is easily removed with light pressure washing, and after being painted outdoors exposed to the elements and traffic, it is still fairly visible after 1 month. Mo will take the information (and the images) and approach the city for permission to test it at Eustis Park.

  • George  advised that Froggie Rappoport is masking COVID-19 masks.  She has made over 700 for the hospitals and Dr offices and many other businesses. She does a professional job and the quality of work is beautiful. She also is making PB masks for our Aiken Pickledillies. Each mask is lined and has a nose grip sewn inside and fits perfectly across the nose.    She also offers monograms (initials or name). She is very talented in her work. She is selling the masks for $25, which is a great price for her time, fabric, machine and delivery of each mask. Anyone interested, contact her at sewfrog@mac.com.

  • Mo asked about the new pickleball t shirt design he has been seeing around town. Marissa made them and they are available at Art & Soul of Aiken in the alley for $15.

Next Meeting will be Monday, August 3rd at 5:30pm via Zoom.
